“Once someone gets used to something bad, he no longer hopes
for something better.”
This statement was made about the poverty in India. People were refusing to have better things because they were comfortable with what they had. Even if these things would have made their life easier, healthier and better, they did not want it. They were used to their poverty and never hoped for anything better.
We have gotten so used to our poverty. By “poverty” I refer
to our lack of strength, our weakness. We forget we can be strong. We forget we
can have Christ’s power and live an abundant life.
We believe our weakness is our greatest hindrance to a life of joyful service to God, therefore, we content ourselves in our lack of ability and strength and continue on as best we can. God wants us to take pleasure in our weakness because only in our weakness are we strong (II Corinthians 12.9-10).
“He does not, as so many believers imagine, take the feeble life He finds in them and impart a little strength to aid them in their feeble efforts. No; it is in giving His own life in us that He gives us His power.” (Andrew Murray) Only when we are aware of our weaknesses and willingly give them to the Lord, His power is then able to flow through us.
"I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10.10)

Oh Christian, be
aware that you refuse a better thing when you allow your weaknesses to hinder you.
Glory in your infirmity! For only then can Christ be glorified through the
power He gives us!
Don't get used to your poverty, live through Christ's power. Do not refuse Him!
